Pre-requisite:

  • Must have current Drivers Licence

Mode of delivery:

  • Face to face training

Learning outcomes:

  • Follow safe and effective vehicle handling procedures in both on-road and off-road situations
  • Operate a four wheel drive vehicle:
    • on steep slopes
    • when traversing across slopes
    • ascending and descending a steep slope, including stall starts
    • in rugged terrain
    • negotiating water crossings
  • Vehicle handling procedures and techniques for a range of conditions including: rock, mud, sand, ice and snow
  • Carry out 4 x 4 vehicle recovery operations safely and effectively
  • Monitor operational conditions and take appropriate corrective action when needed
  • Carry out pre-and post-operational checks
  • Monitor and maintain vehicle performance
  • Follow WHS and environmental protection procedures and regulations
  • Follow emergency procedures when required
  • Efficient driving techniques and safe driving strategies
  • The effect on the centre of gravity of changing fluid loads

  • 2 days

Course program:

  • Day 1 – Theory and Practical, including small exam
  • Day 2 – Practical

Location:

  • Course is conducted at your workplace or at a negotiated location
  • This course is nationally accredited.
  • Students competently completing the course will be issued with a Statement of Attainment in RIIVEH305D Operate and maintain a four wheel drive vehicle

Day 1 sessions:

  • Four wheel drive theory
  • Recovery and water crossings theory
  • Maintenance and vehicle set up

Day 2 sessions:

  • Field exercises – dirt road driving, steep slopes, rugged terrain
  • Stall start
  • Vehicle recovery
  • Negotiating mud, sand and water crossings
